Why Supercapacitors?
We at Pion aspire to lead the energy industry in more than our home country, Nigeria’s level. However, we cannot neglect the problems right in front of us in the case of Nigeria’s power production and distribution, so we start from there. But one would ask: “Why supercapacitors, even as a first product?” Indeed, we do not intend to end it there, but we have our reasons for choosing supercapacitors. Supercapacitors are electronic devices that can store and release large amounts of electric charge very quickly, unlike batteries that take hours to charge and discharge. They also have a longer lifespan and are more environmentally friendly than batteries. Supercapacitors are ideal for applications that require high power density, such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and grid stabilization.
Supercapacitors function like batteries as they are both energy storage products, but with quite different use cases, at least the ones made by our predecessors. Our Power Packs’ design, what we call Dynamic Loading design, allows us to control the output voltage and current of the supercapacitors by using a smart circuit that adapts to the load demand. This way, we can avoid the rapid voltage drop that occurs when normal supercapacitors discharge, and extend the usable energy range of the device Through diligent material selection, we also saw improvements in the energy densities. For instance, our Power Packs can achieve an energy density of 60 Wh/kg, which is comparable to some lithium-ion batteries, while maintaining a power density of 10 kW/kg, which is much higher than most batteries. Overall, this means our Power Packs can store more charge, magnitudes faster than any Lithium-ion battery, and discharge at a rate that matches the applied load of the appliance.
Pion’s approach to the problems in the energy industry is a supportive one. We value customer feedback much like any other grown used to the Agile Methodology. Our product, the Power Pack, lets us achieve these in the following ways:
Besides our product, we will simultaneously run services to set up microgrids in places around Nigeria that have little to no access to electricity. This will help to improve the access and reliability of electricity for rural and remote communities.
Moreover, our key partnerships would also ensure that our product’s efficiency is used in several other products and industries, such as EVs, handheld devices, and other places where a battery is usually found, as well as places where supercapacitors are needed to produce short, fast, and high-power bursts. This will increase the performance and sustainability of various devices and applications that rely on electric power.
Furthermore, with the extra service to make our Power Packs suit your dimensions and requirements, be it battery or supercapacitor, we are more than capable of supporting you, your product/designs, and energy usage, for whatever you choose.
